Here is a review I have just found on McFLY's new album, "Radio:Active." I'm not sure how to take the review, I found it nice at times and at others somewhat offending, as a fan. But, of course, a critic isn't meant to say nice things, they're supposed to be opiniated and very blunt. So, here ya go. Hey, if it gets your fired up to write your own review, please do. You can do that here.
Here it is:
"Fans have had months to listen to the bulk of McFly's self-released fourth album, after they made the business decision to give a sampler with the worst Sunday paper on God's earth. Nerves were already shredded by the lead single 'One For The Radio' being the worst of McFly's otherwise faultless track record, so this album is eventually and tentatively approached as the full thirteen track physical release.
Opener 'Lies' is a strong start. Bold and literally brassy, the lightweight pop seen in previous albums has given way to an aggressive, full-on sound. Thankfully, the one thing that hasn't changed is McFly's knack for a tune, but said tunes are being drowned under excessive rocking out in some cases. The axe-wielding makes an appearance on 'Everybody Knows', and it's clear that McFly are teetering dangerously close to all-out rock naffness a la Fratellis, as opposed to the Who/Beatles classic pop of their previous incarnation. The balance is somewhat tipped back with 'Do Ya', which sees Tom Fletcher's falsetto over a song that sounds exactly like you would imagine a song entitled 'Do Ya' to sound like.
We reach the first ballad in the form of 'Falling In Love', and it's this point that the album picks up after a dodgy quarter. Restrained, the song is allowed to be the sweet and tender number it is. 'POV' continues the run of improvements, the strings lending a lush quality that is fitting to this epic slowie.
Jolting you out of the orchestral mood is 'Corrupted', which sounds like it should be sung by some pop vixen writhing around on a stage, but it works surprisingly well. This reviewer honestly does not know how she feels about 'Smile', the musical equivalent of someone poking your face saying "turn that frown upside down". It does contain the line "c'mon show us your teeth and what you've got underneath", it's jaunty to the point of nausea, it's riddled with lyrical cliches, it has far too many trumpets blaring, but there's something so endearingly daft and cheerful about it, it can't be hated. Nobody who bears an inkling of dislike towards McFly should ever hear this though, as it would give them all the ammunition they need.
'Going Through The Motions' is probably the closest to the 'old' McFly on the album, complete with ooer missus innuendo. After some album filler numbers towards the end, 'Radio:ACTIVE' goes out with a farewell that will instil fear in every hardcore McFly fan's heart. 'The Last Song' is a massive singalong number, using a swansong as an analogy. Queen-esque, it is one of the best tracks here, showing how to do 'stadium huge' without sounding like Status Quo. Clearly, emulating Freddie Mercury and co. is something McFly do very well, and they would be wise to follow this path rather than the pop-punk one, which is tired and over-done.
Having seen the new material live, it's apparent that this album captures their energetic sound, with nothing watered down - one of the plus points of freedom of interference from a major label. This is how McFly always wanted to sound - it could've been taped from one of their vibrant shows. However, whereas 'Radio:ACTIVE' is abound with enthusiasm and vitality, there was more sophistication on 'Wonderland', and more wit and experimentation on 'Motion In The Ocean'. It's not going to be the great breakthrough from the constraints of being seen as a teeny pop group that people may have expected, but it is the sound of a band comfortable with themselves. Here's to more."
So, if you live in the U.S, you must know who Ellen Degeneres is. Well, if you don't, she is a popular and very funny talk show host. My mom and I watch her all the time and she is absolutely halarious and her show is a joy to watch. They film her show here in California at Warner Brothers Studio near L.A. I've read on the McFLY boards that someone who runs Super Records unofficial on Myspace has helping overseas fans by asking people to sign petitions to get McFLY on the show. You have no idea what that could do for them, it would bring them to the U.S and could very much increase their popularity in the U.S. The owner of Super Records Unofficial Myspace site has reported that she recieved a letter back from Ellen saying that she would look over their CDs and see what could possibly happen. Ellen is booked until March 2009, but after that she would consider it. Now that would be totally awesome.

"Now, as you've all probably realised by now, heatworld gets extremely worked up at the mere mention of McFly – so when we saw these exclusive behind-the-scenes snaps from their new video, we almost did a little wee of excitement. Tom, Danny, Harry and Dougie have picked a rather festive theme for their latest outing, although there does appear to be some zombie types lurking in the background. Well, they're either zombies, or McFly have some even weirder fans than us! The lads' have done this year's Children In Need single, and it's being released as a double A-side Do Ya / Stay With Me on 24 November. In further knee-trembling news, the sexy foursome will also be performing both tracks on the Children In Need show this Friday (14 November), while the zombie-tastic video will premiere over the weekend. We don't know about you, but we can't think of anything we'd rather find under our tree on Christmas morning than a gift-wrapped McFly. Just imagine unwrapping that. Mmmm. What do you make of McFly's new video, and will you be watching them this Friday on Children In Need?"
McFly are performing both Do Ya and Sta With Me on Friday night's Children In Need TV showplus see thm perform Do Ya again on Sat morning on the Lil Chris show - C4 11.30am
It's from a bit back, but that's alright? I found it pretty funny, actually. Here's a preview:
What sport could you do at London 2012? Dougie: “Women’s 500m. Or we could be a really bad rowing team…” Harry (laughing): “You could be the cox.” Dougie: “I could be the what?”
What’s the most random story you’ve heard about yourself? Tom: “There was a random one on Google saying that we popped in to see Danny’s cousin on the way back from a gig in Carlisle, but we didn’t it was just some bloke saying he was Danny’s cousin…” Danny: “What!?”
I found the video on BBC, where McFLY opened the show and was interviewed on the 12th of October at Switch Live. The video on their website wasn't viewable by anyone outside the UK. Enjoy everyone!
