Back in 2004, McFLY just started on their musical pathway. McFLY's first album, Room On the 3rd Floor hit the charts and quickly took the number one spot. Their first album was a huge hit. Not only did the album go number one, but two tracks off the albums tracks also went number one; Five Colors in Her Hair and Obviously. On top of this huge success, Room On the 3rd Floor went double platinum. Since the members were so young when this album was released they broke a Guinness World Record for being the youngest band to have a debut album enter the charts at the top. In the same year of releasing their first album, McFLY performed along Busted's Nationwide Arena Tour. Soon later, McFLY headlined their own Arena Tour.
Entering 2005, the band released their next album, Wonderland. Like their first album, Wonderland was both a number one album and 2 tracks/singles off the album went number one; All About You/You've Got A Friend and I'll Be Okay. McFLY headlined their Wonderland Arena Tour later that year and released a concert DVD. McFLY swept Europe in what seemed no time. With the screaming fans, the sold out Arena Tours, the 2 number one albums and the 4 number one singles it was hard not to know who McFLY was. But, the band wanted to extend their fan base. A nice amount of new American fans joined their fan base after they witnessed McFLY in the American movie Just My Luck. In the movie the band played as themselves; an English band trying to make it big in the U.S. Their songs: Five Colors, Too Close for Comfort, All About You, and I'll Be Okay were featured in the movie and preformed a new song: I've Got You. McFLY released a soundtrack CD for Just My Luck. It's the only McFLY CD that was ever released right into the U.S. The soundtrack was composed of songs from Room On the Third Floor and Wonderland. It also had a "American version" of Five Colors in Her Hair. After releasing the CD, McFLY played two shows, in Los Angeles and New York, and went to the Just My Luck premiere in Hollywood, CA. In the same year of their Just My Luck soundtrack release, McFLY came out with another new album: Motion in the Ocean. Although the album didn't become their third number one album, singles off the album took the number one spot. The singles include: Please, Please, Star Girl, and Transylvania. The band went on two tours after their album release. The Motion in the Ocean arena tour supported their latest album. Next was the Up Close and Personal tour. On this tour, McFLY didn't play in arenas but played small revenues; trying to reach out better and closer to their supporting fans. A couple months after releasing Motion in the Ocean, McFLY announced that they were leaving their currently record label - Island Records. This news scared some of the fans, thinking that the end of McFLY was nearing. But the band denied the rumor and said that McFLY was still sticking around. Instead of finding a new record label, the band created their own. Super Records is the name of their brand new record label. The band really believes that this what is best for them, what's best for the fans. "Now we have total control of everything, and being control of the music is very important to us. We have no one to please apart from ourselves and our fans." Says Tom Fletcher in a Studio Olympic Interview. Differences between the band and the managers at Island Records was said to be the cause of their decision of leaving the label. But, despite past differences, McFLY confirmed that there was no disputes with Island Records now. The first album McFLY released on their record label is the bands latest album: Radio:ACTIVE. McFLY released this album by having it handed out with the Daily Mail on Sunday in the UK. "This is our best album, by far. And we want as much people as possible to listen to it." Radio:ACTIVE is really a great display of how the band is maturing, and picking themselves out of the "boy band" label. Their whole sound matured, becoming more rock. Because of this slight change, the band could've possibly expanded their wide range of fans. One For the Radio was the first single that came off of the album. It came in #2 on the charts. Radio:Active Deluxe Edition was released in September and topped at #3. This album differed from the album released in the mail by having four extra tracks; including their newly released single, "Lies." The single ended up topping at #4. On the 11th of November, 2008 McFLY started their new tour to promote Radio:Active. Rumors are going around that McFLY is planning a visit to the US; finally answering the prayers of their American fan base. Us Americans shouldn't hold out breath though - the visit wouldn't be this year. With their new album release and tour, the band is booked solid. When 2009 rolls around, we will keep our eyes open.
