Tom Michael Fletcher was born on the 17th of July, 1985. Tom is originally from Harrow, London in England, and is still residing near London currently. Tom was 16 when he started to mark his part in the musical scene, but not as a member of McFLY, as a lyricist. In McFLY, Tom is held most responsible for, almost, every song written by McFLY and even some for Busted. He isn't the only one who writes songs, but his killer lyrical skills are what he is most known for. So far, Tom has written 10 number one singles; seven for McFLY, and three for Busted.
When Tom was younger, the whole musical thing wasn't on his "to-do" list, but he still enjoyed music and learned/played the guitar. He originally wanted to become an Actor; not that far off from a rock star. Tom attended theater school and both acted in plays and appeared as an actor in some television episodes.
At the age of 16, Tom called it quits on the acting scene. He decided that he "no-longer liked it anymore." Shortly before Tom turned 17, he auditioned for a part in a new band called Busted. He
actually got into the band for approximately 24-hours, or had he said. But later on, Island decided that they wanted a "three-some" group instead of a "four-some" group. Tom lost his place in Busted to Charlie Simpson. Instead of sending Tom home, Island asked him to help write songs for Busted's debut album; they saw his lyrical talent and just couldn't let that get away. Tom agreed and began to write alongside James Bourne and the rest of Busted. While Tom was still in London, Island continued to ask favors of him, asking him to help film the auditions for another up-coming group called V. But this new "pop-act" wasn't anything like Busted. No instruments are played, just dancing and singing; similar to N'Sync or The Backstreet Boys. Tom agreed and helped out with the audition taping. All the boys that came in were all the same; they danced and they sung. But one came across that separated himself from everyone else. His name? They call him Jones, Danny Jones. With his guitar and killer voice, Danny auditioned for a part in V, mistaking this audition to be one for Busted. The boy was lost, but Tom found him. Danny got turned down for the part, but was offered another that would shape him perfectly. Tom saw his talent, in both his instrument and his vocals. He invited Danny to help write along side himself and James Bourne for a bit. Then asked if he'd join Tom in a quest of coming up with their own band and finding a record label.
With the first two members of McFLY in place, the first album started to be created. After finishing up his bands album, James Bourne help co-write songs for Tom and Danny. Later on, Tom and Danny performed some of their new songs to the producers of Island. They loved them! And gave them a label, but the band was short a bassist and drummer. While holding auditions, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd came across. The two were exactly what Tom and Danny were looking for and gave them the spot in the band.
Later, the name McFLY came into place. The idea came from one of Tom's favorite movies: Back to the Future, with a character called "Marty McFLY." And thus, McFLY was born.
Like the rest of the members, Tom is a essential part to the band. Being the founder and the brilliant song-writer, his guitar skills are pretty amazing too. His success is huge so-far, and will continue to grow into the future, he's already a legend.
